To sum up...

Currently, I am a prolific Special Correspondent, Special Columnist, and Contributing Writer for the Chicago Sun-Times and Pioneer Press. I write regular articles on a plethora of topics, published in a variety of sections (lifestyle, progress, home and garden, parenting, fashion, travel, health, etc.). I've been responsible for tribute articles, advertorials and opinion pieces as well. In addition, I research, fact-check, find sources, conduct interviews and write a twice-monthly parenting column for the Chicago Sun-Times website called, "Wendy City Mom: the parenting column." I often use my own photography.

Click HEREHEREHEREHERE and HERE for examples.

I am a seasoned magazine features writer and book reviewer as well; I've been published in a variety of magazines-Chicago Parent, Blood and Thunder, Yoga Magazine, Five on Five and Yoga Chicago, among many others.

In addition, I edit, proofread and write press releases, newsletters, e-blasts and web content for the Windy City Rollers (ranked #9 in the world). I also conduct interviews, present on the sport of roller derby to various institutions, and participate as an athlete for the fastest growing women's sport in the U.S.

Prior to my freelance writing career I wrote and edited itineraries and put together legal documents for a boutique luxury travel company. I worked in a fast paced team environment, learning directly from tour operators and vendors as well as experts in the field. I conducted site inspections at luxury properties across the U.S. as well as a few in Europe. Upon my return I conducted Power Point presentations to my colleagues and I wrote in-house, detailed trip reports. I had a hand in updating and managing the reservation/content management system as well.

My articles have a proven track record for optimal SEO. For example, a blog post of mine was awarded a top spot for Chicago Now. I have superb short-form writing and headline skills. I'm an excellent editor, proofreader, fact checker, researcher, reporter and idea/pitch-generator. I have the ability to maintain a professional rapport with contacts and colleagues. I'm adept at social media, working on deadline, and I'm very passionate about magazine journalism.

Also, still tooting my own horn here, I graduated at the top of my class, with high honors (3.8 G.P.A.), from Chicago’s prestigious DePaul University (first in my family to attend and graduate college). While at DePaul, I traveled to India for the English department’s short-term study abroad program.

On writing and mothering

Boys are rad. I have so much fun with my three little monsters every day and I thank my lucky stars that I get to be at home with them. I know that I enjoy them so much because I also have a life and interests of my own. My boys, of course, are still involved with everything I do, in some fashion, and I've worked really hard at finding a way to fulfil my dreams while also helping them fulfill theirs.

One way that I've been able to maintain my drive to write while also catering to my young boys' schedules and burning inquisitiveness, is to take them along on assignments for my Sun-Times parenting column. I've written stories about model train restaurants, Chicago beaches, an indoor trampoline park, yoga, Six Flags, Morton Arboretum, the Lincoln Park Zoo, dental visits, taking a good photograph, travel with kids, and the list goes on and on. The four of us go on these fantastic adventures and then I get to write about it and document it for the Sun-Times and Pioneer Press (web and old-fashioned-but-loved print).

My boys, so far, are growing up in the limelight-they've had their photographs and stories published in newspapers, on websites, in magazines, on professional blogs, etc. numerous times. I hope they will get a kick out of it when they're grown men, and who knows, maybe it will inspire them to set goals and go after whatever they want in life no matter how many, if any, children they have.
